Principal photography on Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures’ Candyman is now underway in Chicago, and we’ve got the full cast list to share with you guys courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting. Joining the previously announced cast of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Us, Aquaman), Teyonah Parris (If Beale Street Could Talk, Dear White People), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits, Utopia) and Colman Domingo (Euphoria, If Beale Street Could Talk); we have Brian King (The Chi, Boss), Rebecca Spence (Princess Cyd, Public Enemies), Kyle Kaminsky (One Night in Hollywood, DriverX), and a trio of Chicago stage veterans—Carl Clemons-Hopkins (Hamilton, Dreamgirls), Cedric Mays and Christiana Clark—have also joined the cast; alongside two well-known local broadcast news anchors/reporters Nancy Pender (formerly with WFLD-FOX/32) and Pam Jones (currently with WGN-AM/720). Additionally, Tony Todd (who played the titular role in the previous three films) will have a part in this new film, but it hasn’t been confirmed or denied if he will appear as Candyman, another character or if it’ll be a supporting role or a cameo. Nia DaCosta (Little Woods) is directing from a script written by Jordan Peele (Us, Get Out) and Win Rosenfeld, who are both also producing via their Monkeypaw Productions.
The film is described as a spiritual sequel to the original 1992 film, taking place in a gentrified area of Chicago where the notorious Cabrini-Green projects once stood….and where the legend of Candyman was born.
Candyman is scheduled to hit theaters June 12, 2020.
