Drew Van Acker (Pretty Little Liars) is the latest new cast addition to join Season 2 of DC Universe’s Titans, a live-action adaptation of the Teen Titans comic book. Confirming long-standing rumors that he would be boarding the show, Acker will be portraying Aqualad in the upcoming season, described by DC Comics and Warner Bros. TV as “a founding member of the Titans and Aquaman’s eager sidekick” [who] “would eventually step out from the shadow of his mentor to become his own hero as a Titan along with many other former sidekicks.” According to a report from TV Insider, this iteration of the character will stay true to his comic book origins by being born in Atlantis and portrayed as a member of the royal court who trained under Aquaman to be a protector of life in and out of the ocean. In the comics, Garth was for a time replaced as Aqualad by the character Jackson Hyde, who was based on the character Kaldur’ahm specifically created for the Young Justice animated series.
Acker joins an expanding cast of actors that includes Season 1 mainstays Brenton Thwaites (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Gods of Egypt) as Dick Grayson/Robin, Anna Diop (Us, 24: Legacy) as Kory Anders/Starfire, Teagan Croft (The Osiris Child) as Rachel Roth/Raven and Ryan Potter (Big Hero 6, Supah Ninjas) as Garfield Logan/Beast Boy; as well as newcomers Esai Morales (Ozark, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke, Chella Man as his son Jericho, Chelsea T. Zhang (Andi Mack, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as his daughter Rose Wilson/Ravager, Joshua Orpin (The Neon Spectrum) as Conner Kent/Superboy and Iain Glen (Game of Thrones) as Bruce Wayne.
