This is Rumor Control. Here are the facts. Word first broke around Halloween last year that Rob Zombie was prepping a sequel to The Devil’s Rejects, arguably considered his best film to date. It was assumed at the time that the new film would be a prequel, seeing as all but one of the Firefly Clan wound up dead by the end of The Devil’s Rejects (that final scene is still considered a classic). However, an exclusive report from Bloody Disgusting reveals we may actually be getting a proper sequel, and sooner than we thought!
According to the report, the sequel is titled The Devil’s Rejects 2: Three from Hell and is targeting a shooting start date sometime in March. The report also states that Zombie is in negotiations with Saban Films and Lionsgate to release the sequel in theaters, VOD, and home video. Zombie previously distributed his crowd-sourced 31 through both companies, so that rumor carries a little bit of weight to it. There’s no confirmation on plot yet, but the title seems to indicate that we will be seeing Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig), Otis B. Driftwood (Bill Moseley), and Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie) return from the dead a la Jason Vorhees or Freddy Krueger, possibly booted out of Hell (earning them their eponymous title).
While many are already dismissing this rumored new direction for the franchise as an insult to it’s predecessor and desperate—following the mixed to negative receptions of Halloween, Halloween II, Lords of Salem and 31—a lot are excited to see the fan favorite characters return to the screen. Until Zombie or the studio issues an official statement or press release, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt.
