Amazon Studios’ Carnival Row has cast Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings) and Cara Delevigne (Valerian, Suicide Squad) as its two leads. The series is set in a neo-Victorian city where mythical creatures fleeing their war-torn homeland have gathered, putting them at odds with the human citizens. Bloom will portray a police inspector named Rycroft Philostrate who is investigating a string of unsolved murders that threaten to destroy the tension-filled peace. Delevingne will play Vignette Stonemoss, a faerish refugee dealing not only with rampant human prejudice against her kind, but also with secrets that have followed her to her new home.
The series is based on a feature film script originally written by executive producer Travis Beacham titled A Killing on Carnival Row, which made the prestigious Hollywood Blacklist back in 2005. He later tried to develop with Guillermo del Toro, who dropped out bcc eb the project earlier this year. Paul McGuigan (Victor Frankenstein, Lucky Number Slevin) will be directing all 8 episodes of the series while executive produced and showrunner Rene Echevarria (Teen Wolf, The 4400) will be handling writing duties.
Carnival Row is slated to begin filming this fall for a 2019 release.
