Legendary Entertainment’s Godzilla vs. Kong has finally found a director in horror maestro Adam Wingard, with Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, The Lone Ranger) handling script duties. He is the fourth director hired for the MonsterVerse franchise following Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One), Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island, The Kings of Summer), and Michael Dougherty (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Krampus). Wingard is also known primarily for his work on You’re Next, The Guest and Blair Witch; as well as directing segments on the anthologies V/H/S, V/H/S/2 and The ABCs of Death. His Netflix adaptation of Death Note is set to premier later this summer on August 25.
The film will be the fourth in Legendary’s attempt at a shared cinematic universe. The series has already grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, and it’s only poised to make more as it continues. Currently, it’s unknown if any stars from the other films will be returning for this film, nor what the plans for the franchise will be following its release
Godzilla vs. Kong is set for release May 22, 2020.
