Horror directors Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3D, Mirrors) and James Wan (The Conjuring 2, Insidious) are collaborating on a new high-tech thriler called Smart House for Lionsgate, with Aja directing and Wan producing from a script by Brad Keene (The Grudge 3, From Within). Producer Gregory Levasseur (Mirror, The Hills Have Eyes) is onboard as well.
The plot will involve “a family in the witness protection program placed in the custody of a state of the art, autonomous ‘smart house.’ When a group of assassins locates the family, the house goes into a lethal defense mode.” Sounds like a mixture of the 1999 Disney Channel movie of the same name and David Fincher’s Panic Room, but with Aja and Wan involved I can definitely get behind it. Wan’s production company Atomic Monster (Lights Out, Annabelle) will doing the heaving lifting on the production side, so if anything this film will definitely have the right mood behind it.
There’s currently no cast members or release date, but stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
