This is Rumor Control. Here are the facts. Green Lantern Corps is one of the DC Extended Universe films that is furthest from release, but the studio still needs to get a director and a cast up and running so it’ll be a more seamless transition once pre-production starts. David S. Foyer and Justin Rhodes are currently writing the script, but according to recent rumors, Goyer may be up for the director’s chair as well.
This latest report comes from a recent episode of Meet the Movie Press, where co-host and The Tracking Board reporter Jeff Sneider revealed:
“I’m hearing David Goyer could very well wind up directing Green Lantern Corps himself. When you look at screenwriters that are taking the plunge and directing these movies themselves, we saw rumors last month that Simon Kinberg was going to direct the next X-Men movie. David Goyer is responsible for this entire DC Universe, he wrote Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He wrote Man of Steel, he is the architect, if you will. He is writing and producing Green Lantern Corps, so it’s just very well, what I have heard, one of those situations where he could be like ‘Listen, I think I may be the best guy for the job, nobody knows this like I do.’”
Goyer has already directed several films including Blade: Trinity, The Invisible and The Unborn, all of which revieved mixed receptions, so his lengthy relationship with the studio seems to be the only credible reason why he would be in contention for the job. Although, if he’s managed to pick up anything from Christopher Nolan or Zack Snyder, perhaps he wouldn’t be such an off-kilter choice.
Green Lantern Corps is scheduled to premiere July 24, 2020.
