The long-awaited Jeepers Creepers 3 is finally in the midst of principal photography in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. But just because its managed to clear that hurdle doesn’t mean the drama is over, not by a long shot. According to various outlets, genre vet Adrienne Barbeau (known for her roles in (The Fog, Escape from New York) has dropped out of the film. She was originally slated to play Gaylen Brandon, presumably the mother or grandmother or some other type of relation to Addison Brandon (played by Gabrielle Haugh). Fellow genre film star Meg Foster (known for her roles in Masters of the Universe, They Live, The Lords of Salem, 31, and The Originals) has stepped in to replace her.
Actors and actresses dropping out of movies isn’t newsworthy all on its own. Between scheduling conflicts and creative differences, it happens all the time. What makes this case stand out is the reasoning. It’s no longer a kept secret that director Victor Salva served a 15 month prison stint in 1988 for sexually molesting the 12-year-old lead actor of his debut film Clownhouse. He videotaped himself in the act of doing so, and was also found in possession of commercial videotapes and magazines containing child pornography in his home. Salva took a 5 year hiatus before writing and directing The Nature of the Beast, a DTV mystery horror film starring Lance Henriksen and Eric Roberts that became New Line Cinema’s biggest DTV film of 1995. This led to him securing his first big-studio film, Powder, for Disney that same year. The former victim caught wind of this and attempted to instigate a boycott. After the film was released, Disney cut all ties with Salva.
This isn’t the first time Salva’s conviction has screwed with the development of Jeepers Creepers 3. It was rumored that his association with the project was why original financier MGM couldn’t procure funding. It was also thought to be the reason why production shut down in Vancouver last year. While many fans are glad production is finally underway, there are many who feel that it should have never made it this far. But like it or no, the film will likely end up seeing the light of day.
Jeepers Creepers 3 does not have an official release date, but check back for more information as it becomes available.
