Amazon has been attempting to compete with cable and Netflix by developing its own slate of original programming such as The Man in the High Castle, Hand of God, Goliath, Bosch and Sneaky Pete. Last fall, as part of their Amazon Pilot Season, they premiered 3 pilots for I Love Dick, Jean-Claude Van Johnson and The Tick, with the highest rated one going on to receive a full season order. They all ended up going to series, but it looks like The Tick is going to beat them both to premiering as it has already begun shooting. Three days ago, the official Twitter account posted a picture of star Peter Serafinowicz (John Wick: Chapter Two, Guardians of the Galaxy) in full costume, sporting a different superhero costume than the texturized one he wore in the original pilot, which was a jab at the ones seen in popular superhero films these days. The new suit resembles the one worn by Patrick Warburton in FOX’s 2001 live-action The Tick series.
Check out the different suits in the slideshow below:
Barry Sonnenfeld (MIB) and The Tick creator Ben Edlund are developing the series for Amazon, which also stars Griffin Newman (Vinyl), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen), Valorie Curry (House of Lies), Yara Martinez (Jane the Virgin), and Brendan Hines (Scorpion).
Here’s the official synopsis:
In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an accountant with mental health issues and zero powers comes to realize his city is owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero.
I’ve yet to view the original pilot, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it, plus I’m a fan of Serafinowicz so I’m sure he’ll do just fine in the role. I was not really feeling the first costume they’d designed for him, but the second one has me a little more excited about this series.
