Warner Bros. already has their DC Extended Universe about to kick into high gear with the release of Justice League later this year, and they’re also set to expand their MonsterVerse with the upcoming Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the sequel to Legendary Pictures’ 2014 reboot. The project has just cast Vera Farminga (The Conjuring 2, The Departed) as the mother of the character played by Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things). Kyle Chandler (Manchester by the Sea, The Wolf of Wall Street) was previously cast as her husband. Ken Watanabe (The Sea of Trees, Inception) is the only actor from the previous film returning for the sequel.
The film is being directed by Michael Dougherty (Krampus, Trick ‘r Treat) from a script he cowrote with Zach Shields (Krampus) & Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island). There’s still no story details yet, but it’s been confirmed that Mothra, Rodan andcKing Ghidorah will appear in the film. My money is on Brown being some sort of conduit for Mothra, similar to the old Showa and Heisei Toho films.
